June 2, 2045 – In the early years of the 21st century, numerous advancements in nonlethal weaponry lead to their widespread use on the battlefield.
However, with the depletion of our natural resources we were forced to fall back on a technology from antiquity – firearms.
Energy based weapons (EBWs) are still in use to a limited extent but are becoming more and more scarce.
One problem that firearms have in low oxygen environments is the lack of air cooling.
Rapid fire tends to make the weapons overheat and cease to function. More research is needed to develop better weapons for use in orbit or other low or no oxygen areas.
